The Scale

Posted on November 10, 2007. Filed under: Uncategorized |

Things are going great!  I have lost over 20 pounds!  I am continuing to do my cardio workout and weight training daily and it is paying off.  I have made weighing myself a daily event, also.  I anxiously await my daily visit to the scale.  After reflecting on this behavior and talking with David, I do have to admit I am becoming a little obsessive.  I realized I was quite happy when the scale would go down and somewhat disheartened when it did not move.  I can see how someone can become “addicted” to the scale. It can very easily become something that you want to do every day. And while it is empowering when you are seeing the results you want, it could be something that could affect you negatively on a day to day basis if you are basing your entire self-image on this.  Basically, a perfectly wonderful day can be ruined by this ritual.  Not to mention the fact that at times, what you are seeing may be inaccurate.  Fat loss and muscle gain can alter what the scale shows.  For this reason, I will not weigh myself everyday—anymore.  For the next month, I will only weigh myself once a week on the same day.  After this, once a month.  Wow, who would have thought I would have wanted to be visiting the scale all the time!  It now has to be a temptation I choose to avoid.
